The Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve is probably the wildest territory in Europe. It is the 3rd largest Bioshpere Reserve in the world and hosts more than 5,500 species of flora and fauna. The Danube Delta is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and those who enjoy wildlife photography, being larger than Mallorca Island, but with more than half of its territory still intact. At the West of the Danube Delta, the oldest mountains in Europe, the Macin, are waiting to be discovered. Local life is a mosaic of culture and civilization, as this place has been visited throughout the ages by Greeks, Romans, Turks, Russians, Tatars, Italians, and other civilizations. Visiting the Dobrogea region and the Danube Delta should be one of the most interesting experiences in Europe for a tourist.
We invite you on a journey to a unique natural place where you will also experience the local culture, cuisine and lifestyle.

  • Day 1. Bucharest

Arrival at the international airport. Meeting with the guide and transfer to the hotel for check-in. A short guided walk in the city center, visiting Cismigiu Garden, the old Princely Court ruins, the Old Court Church and the old city center.
Dinner in the old city center. Accommodation at Trianon 3* Hotel or similar in Bucharest.

  • Day 2. Bucharest – Braila – Macin – Tulcea: a trip to Macin Mountains and Dobrogea

Early buffet breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to the Dobrogea region by car. Our first stop will be in Braila. We will visit this old city, a former Turkish citadel, to discover the old architecture influenced by Greek, Turk, Russian and Italian colonists. We will visit Traian Square, the public park and the Danube banks. Later we will continue on our route toward Tulcea, but first we will stop to admire the Macin Mountains at Macin National Park, and to visit Celik-Dere – a Turkish Monastery.
In the afternoon we will arrive in Tulcea. After check-in we will have a city tour to discover this quiet city before dinner. The hilly Tulcea was influenced by Romans, Greeks, and Turks during the centuries, and its culture has a multi-ethnic flavor. Tulcea is the gateway to the Danube Delta and there are many green areas in the city.
Accommodation and dinner at Insula 3* Hotel or similar in Tulcea.

  • Day 3. From Tulcea to Crisan by boat

Breakfast buffet in the hotel. We will spend the first part of the day in Tulcea, before boarding the boat to Crisan. Early in the day we will visit Tulcea attractions: the Heroes Monument, the Victory Park, the Folk Art and Ethnographic Museum, and the Danube banks. After visiting Tulcea, we will take the boat to Crisan village. We will navigate along the Danube Channels and we can admire the beauty of the wild nature from Tulcea to Crisan. Arriving at Crisan, we will check-in at local guest houses and explore this village in the middle of Danube Delta. Crisan which is the main stepping-off point between Tulcea and Sulina, is a fishermen’s village with a few houses spreading over the right bank and a fishery on the opposite shore. It makes an excellent base for exploring the surrounding lakes and canals. Before sunset, we have time to discover the quiet places and to admire the sunset. Local fish-based dinner in Crisan.

  • Day 4. Boating day around Crisan in the heart of the Danube Delta

Breakfast at the guest house. Today we will spend the time boating from Crisan to the nearby channels and lakes. We will be surrounded by water-lilies and weeping willows; we will hear noisy colonies of terns and gulls, pelicans, herons and cormorants. We have the chance to photograph the flora and fauna from local boats built by an eco-tourism association. We will eat fish dishes and you can fish for your own meal. Back in Crisan, we will have a typical local festive dinner.

  • Day 5. From Crisan to Sulina and back to Tulcea

Breakfast at the guest house. The second day in the wilderness of the Danube Delta is dedicated to visits to Letea Forest and to other lakes, channels and villages in the Biosphere Reserve. In the first part of the day we will go to the easternmost point of Romania – the city of Sulina. We will travel by motor boat to Letea Forest and to Letea village. Then we will take the boat to Sulina – a 1,000-year-old city. The town served as headquarters for the European Danube Commission during the 19th century when the Danube was turned into a waterway suitable for commercial shipping. This huge project attracted workers from all over Europe, and the Anglican, Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Muslim and Jewish tombstones in Sulina’s cemetery bear witness to this former international community. The 60-foot-tall lighthouse, located in the middle of town, was built in 1802 and restored in 1870 by the Danube Commission. This is the point from where you can see the Black Sea.
In the evening we will return to Tulcea. Dinner and accommodation at Insula 3* Hotel.

  • Day 6. Along the Black Sea coast and back to Bucharest

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will visit special historical places in the Dobrogea Mountains. Before returning to Bucharest we will also visit the city of Constanta – the main city at the Black Sea.
In the first part of the day we will visit Enisala medieval citadel – a former defensive citadel on the Black Sea. Then we will visit Jurilovca, a small fishing village, to have lunch and experience the real life of the local people. We will also pass near one of the oldest Roman ruins – Histria citadel. Later we will arrive at Constanta where we will take a short guided walk.
In the afternoon we will return to Bucharest.
    End of tour.
